Siemens and Siemens Convergence Creators honored at PCB Design Awards 2016

Austrian, German and Swiss PCB designers were given credit for exceptional performances

The finalists of this year’s PCB Design Awards at the ceremony in Bonn.

The PCB Design Awards are held biannually by the professional organization for electronics design, FED, among Austrian, German and Swiss designers. This year Alfred Fuchs, Siemens Convergence Creators, was honored as runner-up in the category “High Power”, second to Alexander Tonino from technosert electronic. Manfred Hofstätter, Siemens, was awarded first place in the category “3D/installation space” for designing an embedded system for the integration and control of nanosatellites. This makes Siemens and Siemens Convergence Creators front-runners at this year's PCB awards.

The first places in the two additional categories, “High Density Wiring, High Transmission Rates, HDI”, and “Exceptional Creativity” went to Thomas Spangenberg from Kappa optronics and Alois Spieß from TQ-Systems respectively.

About the PCB Design Awards

The PCB Design Awards jury determines winners according to criteria such as technical claim, manufacturability and documentation. This year’s jury was pleasantly surprised that not only “old hands” were among contestants but also newcomers who seized the opportunity to show their great talent and innovative ideas.

Erika Reel, initiator of the award and FED-executive for design, points out how the award increases public awareness and appreciation of this profession. Designers have a challenging job in bridging the process from the development of electronics until manufacturing, which means that they are required to integrate all components and demands. Only a precise PCB design will guarantee an efficient and accurate production, says Reel.
